Reaction to the Passage of Upton Bill HR 910

Statement from The Wilderness Society Director of Climate Policy David Moulton
“Today Big Oil and Big Coal, through their allies and appeasers in the Senate, appear to have succeeded in moving the control of dangerous carbon pollution to the back burner of the Senate. In doing so, they have put the interests of the oil, gas and coal industries ahead of America’s public interest. “You can move a climate change bill to the back burner but it’s still going to boil over if you leave it there. “If we do not reduce carbon pollution it will reduce us – our drinking water, our forests, our competitiveness in a global economy. The public is tired of seeing Big Oil and Big Coal dumping their wastes into the atmosphere for free, endangering the public health and the public lands. If Congress will not pass a comprehensive bill, then the EPA should proceed with the only authority left – the Clean Air Act – to directly curtail emissions.”
