CCX to Tighten Regulation of Participating Ranchers
After January 20, the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), the main market for carbon credits in the United States, will only accept efforts to limit greenhouse gases related to the current year and future years. Previously, ranchers participating in the program have been able to market their past efforts since 2003 to store up carbon in the soil. The sale of credits for actions done in the past has been criticized because it does not necessarily lead to any additional emission reductions.
