Clinton Focused on Global Economy, Climate During Beijing Visit
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese officials on Saturday, where both governments agreed to focus their efforts on stabilizing the global economy and combating climate change. Clinton said the two countries had a "strategic and economic dialogue" focusing on clean energy and climate change, but no commitment on reducing greenhouse gases was made. Clinton's two-day visit to Beijing, at the end of a weeklong Asian tour, demonstrated President Obama's hope to make climate change a centerpiece of US-China relations. To highlight private-public partnerships, Clinton toured a gas-fired power plant in China that is twice as efficient as the coal-fired plants that supply most of the country's electricity.
