Democrats Fall Short of Filibuster Proof Margin in Senate

Incumbent Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia beat Democrat Jim Martin in this state senatorial runoff election, killing Democrats hopes of gaining a filibuster proof 60-seat majority in the Senate. The Senate race in Minnesota is still undecided, with Democratic challenger Al Franken within 13 votes of incumbent Republican Norm Coleman, with 7% of the ballots still uncounted.
