Environmental Groups Praise Obama's Climate Friendly Cabinet Appointments
Environmental groups lauded Obama's appointments to his environmental cabinet, including Nobel Prize-winning physicist Steven Chu as Energy Secretary, former head of the EPA Carol Browner as the head of a new council to coordinate climate, environment and energy issues and former New Jersey's top environmental official Lisa Jackson as the head of the EPA. Most recently, Obama also announced former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack as Agriculture secretary and Senator Ken Salazar as Interior secretary, both of whom are strong advocates of renewable energy and have been supportive of climate change legislation. Some environmentalists expect that this team will make significant revisions and reversals to the Bush administration's policies, including the introduction of science-based, environmentally sound climate and energy policies.
