EPA May Issue Climate Change Endangerment Finding

Lisa Jackson has signaled she may soon reconsider the EPA's "endangerment finding" to allow greenhouse gas emissions be regulated under the Clean Air Act.  In a memorandum to EPA staff, Administrator Lisa Jackson wrote that the agency "will move ahead to comply with the Supreme Court's decision recognizing EPA's obligation to address climate change under the Clean Air Act." In 2007, the Supreme Court found that greenhouse gases are "pollutants" under the Act, linking climate change to increased risks for public health and welfare, however the Bush administration had failed to exercise this authority. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) said that she expects the EPA to move quickly on this matter. Read more at E&E (sub. req.)
