Reid Changes Course, Now Wants Energy and Climate Legislation Bundled

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) confirmed last week that he now supports packaging cap-and-trade, a nationwide renewable electricity standard and "smart grid" legislation into one bill. The announcement was an about-face from statements he made just a week before when he advocated pushing the measures as three separate bills. Reid's new strategy is in line with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other House Democrats who are working on an omnibus energy and climate bill. While sponsors of both cap-and-trade and RES legislation are within reach of the necessary votes, it is still unclear where the vote count will stand when combining the measures.   Read more at New York Times
