Reid: Climate Change Bill by End of Summer
Senator Majority Leader Reid (D-NV) will bring a climate change bill to the floor of the Senate "hopefully by late this summer." Reid made the announcement during an interview with AP last Thursday, the first time he has disclosed a timetable for the next floor debate on climate change. Reid's plans dovetails with those of House Majority Leader Pelosi (D-CA) and House Energy and Commerce Chair Waxman (D-CA) who have already pledged to have a mark up by Memorial Day.
Reid also said the Senate would start working today on a separate energy bill that includes a national renewable electricity standard (RES), claiming the bill would be out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee within two weeks. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chair Bingaman (D-NM) plans to have the energy bill on the floor before spring recess. Read more at AP
