Ted Kaufman, Roland Burris Sworn into Senate
As the Obama-Biden ticket ascends to the White House, it has now officially been replaced in the Senate.
Ted Kaufman, a Delaware Democrat and long-time political advisor to Sen. Joe Biden, was sworn in today to fill the Delaware Senate seat that Joe Biden has relinquished to become vice president. Kaufman, 69, has made clear that he does not intend to stay with the Senate beyond 2010.
Yesterday, Roland Burris was also sworn in to fill the Illinois Senate seat that President-elect Barack Obama left vacant. Senate leaders initially resisted seating Burris because of his appointment by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
