Climate and Energy Resources

Jobs

The state could see an increase of 38,000 jobs and $3.1 billion in investment if $150 billion was invested in clean energy nationwide, reducing Indiana's unemployment rate by 1.2 percent.

Opportunity

Committing to a 30 percent growth in solar in the United States would bring 640 jobs and $515 million in investments to Indiana. The state could realize 8,317 jobs manufacturing wind turbines and $2.77 billion investment in the wind industry alone if 50,000 MW of new wind energy is created at the national level.

Cut Costs

The average family in Indiana would save $10.31 per month on their energy bills and $16.81 per month on vehicle fuel costs if the American Clean Energy and Security Act was enacted.

Climate Consequences

Heavy rainfalls will increase expontentially, with big storms historically seen only once every 20 years instead coming every 4 to 6 years by the end of the century. Flooding will be especially devastating for crops and lead to increased cases of waterborne diseases.

State Action

While Congress debates climate and energy legislation on the Hill, Indiana has partnered with 10 other states to form the Midwestern Greenhouse Gas Accord to combat the dual threats of climate change and energy security.
