The challenge for President Obama and the foreign leaders who met in New York and Pittsburgh was immense. The world expected them to chart a new path for economic prosperity, clean energy development, and environmental security. Thousands of Americans greeted the leaders in New York with public events that both underscored the urgency of global warming and the economic and environmental benefits of reaching agreement on a new climate agreement in Copenhagen in December. Once the poster child for the rust belt, over the past decade western Pennsylvania has become a national leader in green buildings and renewable industries. That’s one reason Pittsburgh is a perfect choice for the G20 Summit – because it shows the potential for bold action in creating a sustainable, vibrant future. Native son Larry Schweiger, President and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, will host a press breakfast for media interested in learning more about the G20 host city, featuring business leaders and decision makers who were instrumental in leading the way to a thriving clean energy economy.
