Rebuilding Power in an Age of Crisis

Below is our message sent to the Mother Jones readership on December 7th. We want to share this powerful messaging with you, the broader USCAN community.

Mother Jones Reader,

We are living in a time of deep crises.

From the rise of authoritarianism globally to escalating climate disasters, everything we value is under threat.

The cost of climate inaction—measured in extreme weather, public health crises, and cultural loss—is deeply intertwined with the cost of democratic erosion that silences us all.

We face a stark, urgent choice: climate action now for the collective benefit of all OR continued inaction and prosperity for an elite few.

There is a way forward.

We are the U.S. Climate Action Network, the largest U.S. civil society coalition of climate and environmental organizations, and we are urgently driving bold and equitable climate action by:

  • Championing a just transition to clean energy: We prepare the ground for a transition from our exploitative fossil-fueled economy to a regenerative, renewable-powered economy.

  • Catalyzing collective action: We recognize that networks can drive change at a scale impossible for any single organization.

  • Leading strategically: We are shifting from reactive responses to detailed, long-term political and issue planning, executing a "Talk Climate Everywhere" strategy that rebuilds public support and empowers communities.

Join the Fight:

We have two urgent, distinct asks for you today, because solving the climate crisis requires both funding and the decisive action of like-minded individuals:

  1. Define your unique contribution: We need your skills, passion, and resources applied where they matter most. We encourage you to reflect on Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson’s Climate Venn Diagram—where the work that needs doing intersects with what brings you joy and what you are good at. Commit to taking one decisive action in your home, workplace, or community this week, grounded in your unique contribution.

  2. Fund our collective power: Your support is the engine that transforms our collective analysis into collective action, making our work tangible and impactful. Please make a generous gift today to support USCAN’s collective leadership.

In Love and Solidarity,

The U.S. Climate Action Network Team
