I understand why it feels that way—it can seem like accepting help means losing independence. But the role of personal care is actually the opposite. It’s designed to support you in doing as much as you can, not replace your abilities. A good caregiver encourages participation, respects your pace, and only steps in where truly needed.
Looking into what personal care involves can help reframe it. It’s less about dependency and more about maintaining dignity, safety, and confidence. In many cases, people feel more independent because they have the right support to keep living comfortably on their own terms.
